- Product Introduction
Products Description
Surgical unalloyed (pure) tantalum metal is available in two grades – R05200 and R05400. Tantalum UNS R05200 and Tantalum UNS R05400 are equally suitable for surgery. The two products have identical requirements concerning max metallic contents of e.g. Niobium, Iron, Titanium, Tungsten, Nickel, and Molybdenum. The R05400 products are allowed a slightly higher oxygen content. Their mechanical properties are almost similar.

Advantages
High radiopacity from material density alone
Tantalum sits at 16.65 g/cm³. The marker ring is clearly visible on X-ray and fluoroscopy without any added contrast filler. You see the ring, not a guess.
Decades of implant use back the biocompatibility claim
Tantalum has been in surgical implants since the 1940s. It passes ISO 10993 testing. Published long-term studies show minimal tissue reaction around tantalum implants.

Stable in body-fluid chemistry
A Ta₂O₅ oxide layer forms on the surface immediately on exposure to air or fluid. This layer holds up against most acids, saline, and bodily fluids. The capillary tube wall does not degrade or leach during use. Only hydrofluoric acid and hot concentrated H₂SO₄ break it down - neither shows up in a medical setting.
Capillary geometry moves fluid on its own
The tube's internal diameter is sized so capillary action draws fluid in without a pump or external pressure. The marker ring fills passively, which keeps the assembly simple and eliminates a failure point.
Tantalum Marker Ring Capillarity Tube Features
Cut to whatever size you need - We machine the rings from solid tantalum bar stock, so length, diameter, wall thickness - you tell us what you need and we cut it. OD from 0.5 to 3.0 mm, length from 1 mm up, no minimum order on custom sizes. Tolerance stays within ±0.05 mm.
One solid piece, no seams or joints - Each ring comes from a single continuous bar, not sintered or welded together. Surface finish is Ra ≤ 0.8 μm right off the lathe. It's solid tantalum all the way through, not a coating on something else.
Just push it in, it seats - The outer diameter is sized to match standard catheter inner diameters, so you press-fit the ring into the capillary without any adhesive or heat. It's tantalum, so the moment it's in place you can see it on X-ray - no second step to verify position.
Application
- Medical imaging - CT, fluoroscopy, X-ray, you name it. The ring sits at the catheter tip so the doctor knows exactly where the device is on screen. Not a guess, just a clear mark.
- Cardiovascular work - Balloon catheters, therapy catheters, guide wires. The ring is always at the same spot, so when the balloon inflates, it goes where it's supposed to.
- Micro-catheters - When you're dealing with vessels that are only 1 or 2 mm wide, you need a marker that actually shows up on imaging. Tantalum is dense enough to do that without adding any extra bulk to the tube.
